Charles A. Potthast, Sr., a lifelong resident of Croton on Hudson, NY passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at the age of 88.
Charles was born to John J. and Conietta (Geppi) Potthast on August 5, 1929 in Baltimore, MD. In August 1965 Charles married Mary (Ferrara) Potthast. Charles and Mary were married for 43 years until Mary’s passing in 2008. He worked as an engineer for New York Central Railroad which later became Penn Central, Conrail, and finally Metro North railroad. Charles retired from Metro North in 1992. Charles volunteered for many years at Saint Augustine school in Ossining, NY. He was an avid golfer. Charles loved to walk and would walk up to 8 miles a day. Charles is survived by his loving children Charles A. Potthast, Jr., Anne Marie Cunningham (Mike), cherished grandchildren Nicholas, Daniel, Eric, and Lily, and caring brother Robert Potthast . Charles was predeceased by his wife Mary Potthast, brothers Anthony and John Potthast, and also by several brother and sister-in-laws. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018 from 4-8pm at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 41 Grand St., Croton on Hudson, NY. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10am on July 21st at St. Augustine Church, Ossining, NY, with burial to follow at Bethel Cemetery, Croton on Hudson, NY.
