SOME MORE RECENTLY UNEARTHED BITS & PIECES ABOUT CROTON NOTABLES BRUNO FISCHER, GLORIA SWANSON, AND YALE JOEL

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton -- our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

OUR VERY POPULAR SERIES CONTINUES IN 2025---SOME MORE RECENTLY UNEARTHED BITS & PIECES ABOUT CROTON NOTABLES BRUNO FISCHER, GLORIA SWANSON, AND YALE JOEL. Click on the photos and links.

Collectors of pulp magazines and "noir" paperbacks immediately recognize the name BRUNO FISCHER. We stumbled upon this bit from 1953 and Manhunt Magazine.  For more about Fischer and his Croton Connection, click here.

Gloria Swanson was one Croton's most notable residents.  She lived
on Mt. Airy Road--(you can see an article with exterior shot images at EverythingCroton: 1924, PHOTOS FROM GLORIA SWANSON'S CROTON HOME).

We stumbled upon these publicity shots from a 1926 film she did called FINE MANNERS. She played a Burlesque chorus girl named Orchid Murphy who attracts the attention of wealthy Brian Alden (Eugene O'Brien).  READ MORE ABOUT IT HERE.

As many of you know, photographer Yale Joel was one of Croton's most famous residents. We're especially enamored with his fashion pieces,  and discovered a lovely series of photos he took of the actress Capucine in 1955.  See them at  1955-Flowers (by Yale Joel) | Flickr

For those who don't know: Yale Joel began his career as a professional photographer when he was 19 years old, he served as a combat photographer during World War II, and several years later became a member of the famous LIFE magazine photography staff.
