As some of you may recall, there was an attempt to site such a facility here in Croton a few years back, successfully challenged by the citizenry. When residents brought up the risk of fires/spontaneous combustion, they were essentially laughed at...and yet....

Around 1AM Sunday, Tanker 10 was requested to a large compost pile on fire in the Briarcliff Manor Fire District. This pile, which contains leaves, mulch and larger tree branches, required a massive response of fire apparatus, including over a dozen Tankers to shuttle water to the scene. T10 and Car 2083 provided our two portable ponds, hard suction hose and other appliances to support the fire fight. In total T10 delivered an estimated 30,000 plus gallons of water and operated for nearly 7 hours.
This incident required 5 Engines, 2 Tower Ladders and 12 Tankers to the scene from three counties as well as numerous Chiefs, EMS and other support units and relocated apparatus to cover Briarcliff during this incident.
