A reader still has the Shari Lewis Lamb Chop puppet her father gave her one Christmas---and every year, it is lovingly taken from its original FAO Schwartz gift box and placed beneath the family tree in his memory. As such, we have had this special request:
REMEMBERING SHARI LEWIS AND THAT CROTON CONNECTION
On August 2, 1998, American ventriloquist, puppeteer, children's entertainer, comedian, and television show host--Shari Lewis---died. She was best known as the original puppeteer of the sock puppet Lamb Chop, first appearing on Captain Kangaroo in March 1956 and then Hi Mom, a local morning television show that aired on WRCA-TV (now WNBC-TV) in New York City. And as for that Croton Connection---via the late Ethel Stein.....One of Stein's puppets--LAMB CHOP--would become famous through Lewis and her television show." You can read more about Stein HERE.
