Maria Toto, a resident of Mount Kisco and formerly of Croton-on-Hudson, passed away on November 9, 2021. She was 80 years old and a beloved mother and grandmother. Her style, elegance, sense of humor, intelligence and keen intuition will be greatly missed. Maria was born on July 18, 1941 in Port Chester, NY to the late Anthony and Mary Gertrude (Meade) Marcone. Maria grew up in Harrison, NY and graduated from Harrison High School in 1959. From there, she went to The Katherine Gibbs School and worked as a secretary for BBDO Advertising - it was there she met her future husband, Joe Toto. Maria and Joe married on June 20, 1964 and raised their children Michael and Melissa in Croton-On-Hudson NY, with a 3 year stint in San Marino, CA (’79-’81). Maria attended Mercy College for early childhood education classes, and then worked in the Croton-Harmon schools for several years as a Teaching Assistant in Special Education for the high school and 1st Grade at Carrie E Tompkins Elementary School. She later went onto work at the Mt Kisco Public Library, where she remained until retiring at 72 years old. She is survived by her children Michael Toto of Mt Kisco, NY and Melissa Purdon of Johns Creek, GA. She is also survived by her grandson Will Purdon of Johns Creek, GA and her sister, Elizabeth Fraioli of Palm Coast, FL. She was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Joseph R Toto.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, November 12 from 4-7pm at the Edward
F. Carter Funeral Home, 41 Grand Street, Croton-on-Hudson, NY. A
funeral Mass is scheduled for Saturday, November 13 at 10am at Holy Name
of Mary Church, 110 Grand Street, Croton-on-Hudson. Interment will
follow at Bethel Cemetery in Croton-on-Hudson.
