Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton -- our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.
SOME MORE RECENTLY UNEARTHED BITS & PIECES ABOUT CROTON NOTABLES: PETER FRAMPTON, GLORIA SWANSON, AND LENORE ULRIC--click on the photos and links.
First up, from 1972 and the long-gone Patent Trader, an article about Peter Frampton's solo album WIND OF CHANGE.
Frampton had previously been the lead guitarist with HUMBLE PIE.
For those who don't know, Frampton lived right outside the village but was a frequent visitor. Read more here.
See Frampton today--or rather from 2011--courtesy of friend Sylvain Nadeau---click here.
Next up, Croton's own Gloria Swanson (see photos from her Croton home here) in a 1938 ad for, of all things, Double Mint Gum! The key to charm and popularity....
Celebrity endorsements are nothing new...
But Double Mint Gum---not quite what your editor expected.
Then again, there's this 1913 ad for Croton's Lillian Nordica and her famous weight reducing BATH powder! Click here.
And here's a quick blurb about Swanson doing her own "stunts" so to speak in BEYOND THE ROCKS from the 1922 Photoplay.
And yes, Gloria gets rescued by none other than Valentino---THE Valentino.
Read more here.
Speaking of endorsements, here's Lenore Ulric in a 1920 ad for HYGLO MANICURE PREPARATIONS....
