MORE RECENTLY UNEARTHED BITS & PIECES ABOUT CROTON NOTABLES: GLORIA SWANSON, MARGARET MAYO, & HOWARD Da SILVA

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton -- our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

SOME MORE RECENTLY UNEARTHED BITS & PIECES ABOUT CROTON NOTABLES: GLORIA SWANSON, MARGARET MAYO, HOWARD Da SILVA, AND JACKIE GLEASON--click on the photos and links.

First up, Croton's Gloria Swanson and John Boles, 1934--MUSIC IN THE AIR--an American romantic comedy musical film based on Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II's Broadway musical of the same name.

It was part of the popular subgenre of operetta films made during the era. The film was a commercial failure on its release, losing $389,000.

Next, playwright Margaret Mayo and her also-playwright husband, Edgar Selwyn, fresh off the success of "Rolling Stones" and "Twin Beds" in a 1916 article from The Green Book Magazine.

They indeed seemed like the ideal artistic married couple.  And so....

Because they had collaborated on so many things together, their divorce in 1919 was a shock to the entertainment community.

After her divorce she legally changed her name to Elizabeth Mayo, moved to New York and lived with her mother.

Next up, Croton notable Howard Da Silva.

We were surprised to discover that Da Silva played in a 1983 episode of Archie Bunker's Place---portraying Abe Rabinowitz---in "The Promotion".

Hoping to one day find it in an old re-run on Youtube.

You can read more about the episode
at  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0514355/ - stay tuned for more folks!
