TERMS, "MOTHER...FATHER.... NOW ERASED, LEGAL TERMINOLOGY ACROSS SEVERAL NY STATUTES

Have received many questions and comments about the latest bills---but not going to address most of it; instead, here's the info and who sponsored it all; contact those parties directly is perhaps best---at this blog, however, we'll still be celebrating "Father's Day":

The legislation — S.9316 / A.8382 — updates legal terminology across several New York statutes. Key changes include:

“Mother” → “gestating parent”

“Father” → “non‑gestating parent” or “alleged parent” depending on context

“Paternity” → “parentage”

“Putative father” → “alleged parent”

These changes appear in Family Court Act, Domestic Relations Law, and related statutes. The goal, according to supporters, is to make the law more inclusive for LGBTQ+ families, surrogacy, and assisted reproduction cases.
