OUR FAVORITE SODAS! DOMESTIC! AND A LITTLE SOFT DRINK HISTORY TOO...

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Yes. We admit it--your editor and the Elves drink soda--and we're particular in our choices too...and so...If you don't "imbibe", please read no further........because comments about unhealthy lifestyles, etc. will never see the light of day at this "all things in moderation" post (smile!).....

Click on the photos and links.

First up--our absolute Faves in the "Exotic" categories---Stewart's Cherries 'n Cream and Orange 'n Cream---available just about everywhere but in this case at Croton Shoprite (click on the photo ABOVE). Must be served very very cold--and truly reminiscent of those Creamsicles we used to get from the Bungalow Bar ice cream truck

There's a bevy of lemon lime sodas out there--but for a REALLY GREAT STRAWBERRY ICE CREAM FLOAT--there's only one that will do--and that's 7up. Goes great with lime sherbert too....click on the photo for a 1960 ad...yes BOYS LIKE GIRLS WHO MAKE 7UP FLOATS.

P.S. Sometimes 7-UP is hyphenated! Check out this 1950's 7-UP Party Book here.

(AND IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE MAKINGS FOR A STRAWBERRY ICE CREAM FLOAT AT HOME BUT FIND YOURSELF CRAVING ONE, THERE'S ALWAYS CROTON CORNERS; CLICK HERE)

As for "plain old Orange and Grape" soda, we highly recommend ORANGETTE and GRAPETTE-----they've been around a LONG time, and in the opinion of one of our "older" (ahem...) Elves, they're the closest thing still around to the Orange and Grape Nehi's of yesteryear.

So far we've only found these in certain Walmarts; read more about the company history here

For Root Beer--again one of those sodas that is best served very very cold, there's only one that will ever do--and that's Hire's (click on the photo to see an 1893 Hire's ad).

Hires Root Beer was created by an entrepreneurial pharmacist named Charles E. Hires, who discovered a delicious herbal tea made of roots, berries and herbs while on his honeymoon. And now it's owned by....the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group; sold just about everywhere--read more here

Your editor and the Elves are almost evenly split in the Cola department---there are Coca Cola lovers (PRE-WOKE COKE THAT IS) and Pepsi lovers--and of course, one Elve longed for the days of R.C. Cola (Royal Crown) and a wedge of lemon...more about RC cola here.

That's all for now--STAY TUNED FOR OUR "FOREIGN" SODA FAVES SOON....
