AND NOW A WORD FROM THE JANE E. LYTLE MEMORIAL CROTON ARBORETUM

Welcome to Everything Croton--a collection of all things Croton, our history, our homes, our issues, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

AND NOW A WORD FROM THE JANE E. LYTLE MEMORIAL CROTON ARBORETUM---an important message....now more than ever...

If you visit the Arboretum, be mindful that with fewer hours of daylight and weaker sunshine as the sun’s angle in the winter sky sinks lower, time spent outdoors gets more important than ever. As the pandemic grinds on and fresh stresses appear, replenishing the reservoirs that sustain our physical, emotional and mental health may mean scheduling shorter, but more frequent sessions outdoors. Even bundling up for a 10 minute walk and sitting on a bench in the woods for the 20 minutes needed to drink morning coffee will help.

The Arboretum is open to the public free of charge from dawn to dusk, 7 days/week, 365 days/year. From dusk to dawn, Hudson National locks the gate at the Fox Road entrance to the access road crossing the golf course. A locked gate during regular open hours means cars can’t get in, but walkers can. So don’t give up and turn back! Park on nearby streets and hike in. And please let us know so that we can contact Hudson’s management to prevent future mistaken lockouts.

November is our renewal month, when we contact Arboretum members to renew their support. This year, to give a little more. The pandemic has ended the fundraisers that are the lifeblood for our projects and programs. The Arboretum is NOT a village park supported by taxpayers: It’s a nonprofit managed by an all-volunteer board.

If you’re not already a member, we can’t contact you – other than with this reminder: During the tough times when local parks and playgrounds were closed, the Arboretum and Brinton Brook were the only outdoor places in town you could go. Now we need you to be there for us. Annual family memberships are still only $25. And contributions of money and volunteer time are always welcome. As we head into 2021, we’re still planning free family events like our February winter tree I.D. walk and guided nature hike next May. And we keep working on finishing and filming the special learners’ project begun when we finished building the boardwalk in 2018.

So if you’re a regular visitor, we ask you to join and support the Arboretum by reaching back to us at:
