On this day in 1941 "How Green Was My Valley" based on the novel by Richard Llewellyn, directed by John Ford and starring Walter Pidgeon and Maureen O'Hara premiered in New York (Best Picture 1942)
It is one of the finest films ever made and if you haven't seen it yet, this is one for the bucket list.....
How Green Was My Valley is a 1941 drama directed by John Ford. The film, based on the best-selling 1939 novel of the same name by Richard Llewellyn, was produced by Darryl F. Zanuck and scripted by Philip Dunne. The film stars Walter Pidgeon, Maureen O'Hara, Anna Lee, Donald Crisp, and a very young Roddy McDowall. It was nominated for ten Academy Awards, famously beating Citizen Kane, Sergeant York and The Maltese Falcon for Best Picture.

Saw it in a theater about 20 years ago. Clearly shows the heartbreaking aspects of those coal towns. Thank goodness you can get DVDs or BluRays of these classics and watch them on big flatscreens today. With the exception of the classics I've seen in the theater, I ALWAYS notice things on a modern setup that I never noticed when I saw them on my local TV station on a 19" screen.
