MORE FABULOUS VINTAGE WEBSITES, FINDS, ETC. FROM EVERYTHING CROTON

As always, some wonderful new finds, oldies but goodies, special requests and more.

From romantic comedies to his more serious work in Sessions and Giant, we loved Rock Hudson, who died in October 1985....

Here he is in Giant, one of our favorite films of all time.

A reader writes that she recently found a putz house with "foil" windows, a stapled base, and was trying to come up with the age of the house (she promises that she will forward a picture). Fortunately she's in luck because collector Tom H not only had the answer but provided us with a four example photo some time ago from the archives.

And finally look what Howard found at Walmart--an entirely "new" type of carved spiral bottle-brush tree... 86-cents. About 4” tall. They had a larger one for $1.00. .

Now getting back to putz houses with foil windows, Tom H says:

"One of the interesting things about the foil window houses is that the platforms were often made without bottoms and some even use a staple at the corners of the bases a-la-the Dolly Toy houses. They usually feature a sort of coconut on the roofs only with the rest of the finish being sandy. I suspect a 1940 or 41 date on these types as printed foil stickers were out by 1939 as were the Dolly Toy stapled corners--however, '39 is possible".

Love this sign for the Tower Theater in Oklahoma; a shame about the graffiti - it must be something when lit https://www.flickr.com/photos/41606952@N07/15081362037/

For the person short on space--this four level cake/cupcake stand may be the best for displaying your village

  1. Hudson was nothing short of brilliant in Giant. Dean and Taylor wre also very good but it was Hudson who stole the show. That role was created for him and a once in a lifetime opportunity. I am so glad to have had the chance to see him. Put this movie on your bucket list.

  2. The foil windows are wonderful. Too bad reproductions have not been made of those. DCrowe
