A
reader asks: I'm trying to find the HUD former housing monitor's claim
that Croton had to add over a hundred affordable, low income, whatever,
apartments here. Wasn't that in writing somewhere? A few years ago?
Your editor's response: Assorted documents were
obtained through freedom of information. This is probably the one you
are looking for: A 3/21/13 letter from HUD/Debevoise & Plimptom to Mayor Wiegman. Obtained
from the village pursuant to a freedom of information request back in
2013...HUD stated that we have 98
more apartments to build under the settlement. With respect to
availability of sites, HUD further states that: THE VILLAGE WILL NOT
SATISFY ITS OBLIGATION UNLESS IT ALLOWS FOR MULTIFAMILY HOUSING IN
ADDITIONAL DISTRICTS OR PROVIDES FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING TYPES. THIS MAY
REQUIRE LOOSENING THE RESTRICTIONS ON ACCESSORY UNITS OR EXPLORING
POSSIBILITIES FOR REDEVELOPMENT. You can read the entire letter at https://everythingcroton.blogspot.com/2013/04/hud-letter-to-croton-now-online.html
Bear
in mind that this letter was obtained from the village pursuant to a freedom
of information request in 2013. As such, the situation may have changed since.
Assorted allocations have also appeared in print as high as 110 units.
All further questions should be directed to the village.

A reader asks: Anything on the girls boarding school that used to be in Croton in the 1900's or so?
Your editor's response: It was called Ullenheim. The Croton Historical Society may be able to help.
So is the new housing being proposed going to be market rate? Do you know?
