VAN CORTLANDT MANOR, A CROTON CUB SCOUT THANK YOU

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Van Cortlandt Manor Cub Scout Thank You

Tiger Dens 1 and 4 of Croton-on-Hudson Cub Scout Pack 28 would like to thank Historic Hudson Valley and its volunteer members for a fun and educational afternoon together at Van Cortlandt Manor.  Our Cub Scouts visited Van Cortlandt Manor in late March and participated in its “Through Young Eyes” program.  We toured the buildings and the grounds, learned how people lived the same, as well as, differently many years ago, and we even pulled and carded wool and churned butter!

A special thank you to Vern, who was a wonderful tour guide, Millie, who did a fantastic job teaching us to card wool and Lindsay, who helped us make some amazing butter!  And, many thanks to Rob for coordinating!  Thank you not only for our fabulous day together, but for all you do to educate our community and help keep history strong in Croton!

Cub Scout Pack 28 of Croton-on-Hudson is in the Manitoga District of the Westchester-Putnam Council of the Boy Scouts of America.  Pack 28 is very graciously sponsored by Holy Name of Mary Church.  Our Pack is open to all boys from first through fifth grades. Scouting provides our children with the opportunity to participate in exciting activities, including camping, canoeing, fishing, community service projects, hiking and field trips.  Events include the annual Westchester-Putnam Council Thunderbird Games at Croton Point Park, Pack trips to West Point for Scout Days at Army Football, Hockey and Basketball, sleepovers, such as a recent overnight at the Connecticut Science Center, and Pack hikes, such as recent hikes at the Croton Dam and the Croton Arboretum. Our scouts also learn new skills to earn awards, advancements, patches, medals and belt loops; they build and race pinewood derby cars, learn new games and meet new friends.  Benefits of scouting include character development and team building as well as citizenship and leadership skills.  For more information, please visit our website at www.crotoncubs.org or contact Charles Henley, Cubmaster, at henleycb@yahoo.com.

Warmly,
Tiger Den 1 and Tiger Den 4
