IMPORTED FROM THE USA: ELIZABETH TAYLOR
British-American actress Elizabeth Taylor (1932-2011) began as a Hollywood child star. As an adult she came to be known for her acting talent and beauty. She was considered one of the great actresses of Hollywood's Golden Age, but she also made several films in Europe. ROTARY CLUB BENCH & GARDEN @ CROTON LANDING
Welcome to Everything Croton, a
collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our
businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.
A WORD FROM RICHARD ZUMBACH: Don't miss the Croton Rotary bench and garden at Croton Landing. Created in 2014, the Rotary Club donated this to the village to recognize all past rotary members and their many contributions to the village. Five past members are specifically identified and I am almost sure you would remember them. It’s a very nice spot and I think the nicest bench at Croton Landing. A WORD FROM CROTON UNITED: UNTRUE, UNFAIR, THESE ARE THE FACTS---NOTHING MORE---NOTHING LESS
And now a word from Croton United: 10/11/15 - This letter was published in this week's issue of the Gazette.
To the Editor, Croton Dems chair Paul Rolnick opened this election season by promising voters that his party’s communications with the public would “consist of clear, fact-based information” because voters “deserve nothing less.” He has already broken this promise.
Here are the facts: Last year, Mr. Rolnick’s party was twice cited by the Westchester County Fair Campaign Practices Committee for making unsubstantiated and misleading factual claims about Croton United during the election of 2014. This year, his party followed up on this dubious distinction by making demonstrably false and misleading factual claims concerning the Wiegman Dems’ financial record on three separate occasions.
Now, having been confronted with the fact that he and his candidate Andy Levitt (along with Trustee Brian Pugh) have mislead the voters of Croton by repeatedly claiming that the village’s bond rating improved under the Wiegman administration (it did not), Mr. Rolnick has apparently changed his mind, preferring in his recent letters to rely on accusation and hyperbole to obscure his party’s financial record rather than deal with facts he does not like. Garden
Club, It’s October and it’s time for our next Garden Club meeting: this
Thursday at the library at 7:30 (10/15). Hope you can be there. This will be our last
meeting of the season so it will be a good time to go over the number of
gardens we have worked on this season, and to plan for next spring. So bring
your ideas to the meeting and we will start working on them.
One really nice spring project we have already started talking about is the circle at the end of Benedict Avenue. Finally the construction is coming to an end and the village asked me if the garden club could plant a garden. I said of course we can. This is going to be great project and significantly contribute to the attractiveness of the village.
Another reminder, Daffodil Day, sponsored by the CCAC, is Saturday, October 17 at the Duck Pond, 9:00 to 11:00. Stop by for some fun daffodil planting, some refreshments contributed by Feed the Birds, and/or just pick up some bulbs for planting around the village in your secret spots. It all contributes to making spring a special time in Croton and you can tell family and friends that you planted them.
Another “thank you Tara” for her continuing efforts to improve the Cleveland median garden over the last six months. . This garden has been very challenging to improve, but it is looking better and better as a result of Tara’s dedication. I and sure the frequent travelers on Cleveland, and the nearby houses, appreciate this attractive garden. Thanks Tara! See you Thursday, we definitely are making Croton beautiful, one garden at a time.
Regards, Rich
