WHEN IS A PARK NOT A PARK? MORE FROM CROTON UNITED ON THE GOUVEIA PROPERTY

And now a word from Croton United...WHEN IS A PARK NOT A PARK? 

WHEN IT’S A WHITE ELEPHANT.

Because we argued that a decision on accepting the Gouveia property should wait until it was clear what the financial impact on the village would be—not to mention the secretive, duplicitous negotiations behind the entire process—the Wiegman Dems have pathetically portrayed us as opposed to parks.

The sad reality is that we were trying to ensure that the Wiegman Dems didn’t burden Croton taxpayers with an expensive white elephant—as other Westchester municipalities have done when they accepted gifts from wealthy residents who wanted to donate property as parkland to take advantage of estate tax deductions. 

The Wiegman Dems dismissed our warnings and they also ignored a cautionary July 21, 2014 article in the Journal News which concluded that “it’s simply too expensive to maintain the donated properties, even when the gift includes a multimillion-dollar endowment.” 

As we predicted, the costs so far greatly exceed the estimates and the park isn’t even open to the public. Click the link to learn how the Wiegman Dems saddled Croton taxpayers with an expensive, unnecessary white elephant.

IMPORTED FROM THE U.S.A. - DOUGLAS FAIRBANKS On today's programme of Le Giornate del Cinema Muto in Pordenone is this afternoon The Mark of Zorro (1920), with elegant, dashing, and athletic American actor Douglas Fairbanks (1883-1939) in one of his best swashbuckling roles. With his marriage to Mary Pickford in 1920, the couple became Hollywood royalty and Fairbanks was referred to as ‘The King of Hollywood'. His career rapidly declined with the advent of the 'talkies’. He finished his film career in Europe, with the British production The Private Life of Don Juan (1934). Well another Croton Fire Fair has come and gone--an outstanding day overall--brought to you by your all volunteer Croton Fire Department. See the photos below. Special thanks to all the volunteers and of course to Shoprite which--as always--provided food, give-aways and more--then check out some shots of antique and vintage fire-fighting equipment and memorabilia from the "Museum" that had been lovingly constructed in the parking lot too.

And of course all the kids that completed the fire safety "tests"--like how to call 911 and climb down a rope ladder, etc. got to ride in a fire truck complete with sirens!

A banner day in the village.  After lots of angst over the possible arrival of Hurricane Joaquin, we instead experienced one of the most beautiful weather days in quite some time.  The Rotary Car Show proceeded on schedule (stay tuned for photos!) and so did the Annual Fire Fair (stay tuned for photos as well).

And...the annual St. Francis/Blessing of the Animals took place at Holy Name of Mary too. Always well attended--always uplifting...and all our four legged friends were so well behaved! Click on the photos below, all rights reserved. High resolution copies will be sent to the parish secretary.

REMEMBERING ROCK HUDSON

From romantic comedies with Doris Day--to his more serious work in the film noir "Sessions"--and the epic "Giant" with Elizabeth Taylor and James Dean--we loved Rock Hudson, who died this date in 1985.
