VOICE OF CROTON--BOARD OF TRUSTEE WRITE-IN CAMPAIGN ELECTION UPDATE

Welcome to Everything Croton, (while the New One is down) a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Voice of Croton - Board of Trustee WRITE-IN Campaign Election Update:
Long story short, a lot is still unknown, but here is what we do know…
The recanvass of all voting machines in Croton began today, November 16, 2024 at approximately 10AM at the Ardsley location. The recanvass of these ballots will continue daily, until all voting machines have been re-canvassed. There are 8 voting districts in our Village.

A total of 5 teams were present today conducting the recanvass. It's a highly tedious task whereby ballots that have been marked as having a “write-in” are physically reviewed by each team. Every write-in that is present on the ballot is tallied and any variation of name spellings is noted and tallied on a different line. Unlike years’ past, Voter Intent Laws state the following “A voter need not write in the first and last name of a candidate in every situation; the standard is whether the election inspectors can reasonably determine the intent of the voter when they cast their ballot.” There were instances today when an initial count was made and a recount of the same set of ballots were repeated 4 times until the figures were reconciled - so when I say long and tedious, I’m not exaggerating!

Following the completion and announcement of the results of the recanvass of all ballots, the Board of Elections will conduct a full manual recount of all ballots for a particular contest if the margin of victory is twenty votes or less or 0.5% or less. You will receive notice by mail of the date, time and processes for the manual recount should the office you are running for fall into this category.

  1. I voted early in Peekskill. I wrote in the write-in candidates. Are all machines being counted, or just those from Croton?
