Lawmaker accuses opponent of racially incendiary mailer that may not exist

--One Westchester County lawmaker accused her election opponent of sending an incendiary, racially-charged campaign mailer about her — but the mailer doesn’t seem to exist.

--Legislator Catherine Borgia, an Ossining Democrat, is seen in a YouTube video calling her Republican opponent Bob Outhouse “very, very, very Trumpy” during a July 10 forum held by the progressive activist group Indivisible Westchester. "There was a mailer sent out against me saying I wanted to let brown people in to rape our white daughters in Westchester, our white blonde daughters,” Borgia said. “The picture actually looked a little bit like my daughter.”

--Outhouse, a retired county detective, said his campaign never sent such a mailer. Borgia didn't respond to questions if the mailer existed or if a copy could be shown to a reporter...

--Outhouse, a Croton-on-Hudson resident, filed a complaint with a group called the Westchester County Fair Campaign Practices Committee...The committee found Borgia’s statements shown in the video “unfair.”  “Contrary to candidate Borgia’s statements, there was no proof that any such mailer ever existed or was ever sent,” the finding stated.

--Outhouse has called it “a hoax.” In a statement about the committee’s ruling he took issue with Borgia saying Republicans have organization, money and “know how to tickle fear.”

“Her race-baiting, fear-mongering scare tactics are doubly despicable because she hypocritically tried to cast herself as a victim, when in fact she was the perpetrator,” Outhouse said in a statement about the committee’s ruling. Outhouse also called on other elected officials and groups that endorsed Borgia to condemn her statements.
