There is a Village Board work session tonight, April 8th, at 7;30PM. Is Croton heading towards charging us for our garbage and recycling pickup?

Ninety days in advance, the program is introduced
to residents via web, print, and press.
    2
Customized bags featuring the town’s municipal seal
    are produced for resident use.
    3
WasteZero stocks the municipality’s bags for easy
access by residents in supermarkets across town.
    4
The program goes live. From there, trash is being
“metered” using WasteZero Trash Metering bags.

Recycling is collected in city-provided bins or toters
    (or at transfer station).

Trash is collected (or accepted at transfer stations)
    only in municipality’s approved bags

    1. Why would Shoprite or A&P give up shelf space for this product?

  2. So let me get this straight. If Sustainable Westchester goes into effect, I have to get my power automatically from whomever they buy it from if I am with Con Ed. If I want to stay with Con Ed, I have to opt out physically from their program. Now they're going to "meter" my garbage in bags only they approve of??????????? What in God's name is going on here.

    1. How long do you really think they're going to keep vacuuming? they've been angling to get rid of that for years.

  7. Yeah, come to Croton. For your $15,000 property tax bill, you can:
-pay additionally for you trash pickup.
-live in a two-family zoned village
-have your commercial areas built up with crappy rentals.
    I'm there, dude!

  12. Another brilliant idea from a board that is so out of touch.

  13. Don't blame the entire Board. Our Mayor heard about this idea at some NYS municipal meeting and brought it up at a Board meeting as a good idea to save money by reducing leaf vacuuming. According to him, several municipalities have implemented this process with great success. In reality, all that is happening is that taxpayers are losing services that we've had for years and paying higher taxes for Village farewell parties and remote State meetings.. I wonder if the Village will have a farewell party for Abe also when he goes to Ossining? Could it be that Abe and Marco know something we don't? When will the public wake up.

    1. I have spoken with several individuals in the county. This company gave a presentation to municipal officials not long ago. The plan is largely considered unworkable since the county burns waste to produce "cheap energy".

That being said, since multi-family units/renters and developments with common dumpsters will be EXEMPT (think Half Moon Bay, Van Wyck Apartments, Amberlands, Bari Manor, and of course the new apartments being built above the Dairy Mart, the new apartments to be generated under Harmon re-zoning, etc.) this is--and will be--a SUBSTANTIAL BURDEN placed on single-family home-owners.

    2. Sorry Patriot but I do blame the entire board. Why do they go along with these whims on the part of one or two trustees? Our time is wasted. Staff time is wasted and their time is wasted. I do know exactly whose feet to put this at and really agree with you on that and the rest for sure though.

    3. And commercial properties are exempt as well.
