7/25/13 GOUVEIA PROPERTY DEAL: WHEN IS A GIFT NOT A GIFT, DAN & WINN CHESNARD

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton -- our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Another excellent letter from the Chesnards on the Gouveia Property Deal; from the 7/25/13 edition of The Gazette:

To The Editor,

WHEN IS A GIFT NOT A GIFT?

Merriam-Webster Dictionary: says the meaning of a gift;  "Something voluntarily transferred by one person to another without compensation."

So does the following apply?

I'll give you this gift but you pay the taxes on it.

I am only a millionaire why shouldn't you pay my taxes, it's a gift to you.

I'll get the write off while you pay the taxes for this gift.

I'll give you this gift, but I'll use it till I die.

I probably couldn't give this gift to anyone else but I have a friend in Croton.

It's not arrogance, just pay for the gift while I use it.

But I am donating it, you are just paying the taxes.

This is what this Gouveia Property Gift sounds like to us!

  2. There certainly have been great letters and people are unhappy but you have to show up if there's any hope in stopping this wink wink done deal. As the mayor said, it's one heck of a gift!

  4. This is a fantastic letter that goes right to the heart of the "gift". So what you have to ask yourself as we far too often must: what the h--- is going on here REALLY? Can residents be blamed for suspecting and expecting the worst?

  6. I am sick to my stomach over the blatant nonsense going on with this so-called gift. And then this board will be aghast and insulted when people think the worst. As for Kevin Davis changing his mind, is anyone really surprised.
