VILLAGE ADMITS BIKE RACKS ERROR; LAW MUST BE CHANGED; PUBLIC HEARING CALLED FOR 6/3/13; THANK YOU ROBERT SCOTT

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

As many of you know, the village board has decided to purchase and install "bike racks" on sidewalks in the upper village (and perhaps other locations). There was only one problem: doing so was a violation of village code which does NOT permit bikes to be parked on sidewalks. Perhaps they thought no one would notice.

But someone did. That someone was Croton resident Robert Scott; you can read his letter to the Gazette here:

When A Village Administration Holds Its Citizens in Contempt http://www.crotonlocal.blogspot.com/2013/04/when-village-administration-holds-its.html

You should also read the Gazette letter from the Chesnards who attended the original work session when these racks were discussed: http://everythingcroton.blogspot.com/2013/04/on-bike-lanes-bike-racks-gazette-letter.html

In light of Mr. Scott's letter, Mr. Zambrano was asked by email if Mr. Scott was correct and if the village code/law would have to be changed should the village move forward with this purchase; no response was received.

However the bottom line is this: On the agenda for the 5/13/13 board of trustees meeting is the following

Village Board of Trustees schedules a Public Hearing on Monday, June 3, 2013 at 8pm in the meeting room of the Stanley H Kellerhouse Municipal Building to consider Local Law Introductory No. 3 of 2013 amending Chapter 197 of the Village Code--WHEREAS, the Village Board wishes to amend chapter 197 of the code of the Village of Croton on Hudson to allow bicycle to be parked on Village sidewalks.

What more is there to say. Mr. Scott has said it all. When it comes to bikes--and so much more--our village board pedals to its own tune. Another case in point: the multi-million dollar Croton Point Avenue Project/Bike Lane--read more here http://www.everythingcroton.blogspot.com/2013/04/john-peillos-open-letter-to-croton-bd.html

  2. It just another example of officials who allow personal agendas to rule the day. A normal person would have some shame. Is it any wonder so many people are just biding their time until they can move somewhere else.

  3. They probably bought the bike racks already, couldn't return them and now they or we pay the piper. I am so sick of The "Holland Syndrome" around here.
