*****Much discussion about whether or not an official who has recused himself--or herself--on a certain issue--must leave the dais PHYSICALLY. Alot of this has been cross-checked with Copilot, Google AI, Robert's Rules (which says No, doesn't have to leave the room), etc., but as always, you should do your own due diligence:

---While the general expectation is that they step away from the decision-making process, whether they are legally required to "leave the room" varies

---State Ethics Commissions & Best Practices Strongly Recommended: Even where not strictly legally mandated, most legal counsels and state ethics bodies advise officials to physically leave the room.

---Why "Leaving the Room" Matters; State and local entities strongly advocate for the official to step out for several critical reasons:  

Preventing "Subconscious" Influence: Even if an official stays silent, their physical presence, facial expressions, or body language at the dais can inadvertently pressure or intimidate other board members.  

Avoiding the Appearance of Impropriety

Maintaining Clean Boundaries: In cases where an official tries to act as a regular citizen (e.g., trying to step down from the dais to speak during the "public comment" portion on their own property dispute), courts and ethics boards generally look down on this, as it is nearly impossible for the public to separate the "citizen" from the "elected official."
