NY Wants to Reform Math Instruction. Experts Disagree on How.
They buried the lede— until we fix teachers colleges, the focus won’t be on students:
“We’re not an evidence-based profession traditionally, we’re more of an ideology-based, philosophy-based profession, and that works to some degree, but it’s not working for most of our kids,” Gaffney said. “So we need to move away from that towards the evidence.”

ReplyDeleteMath performance At a fourth grade level in the state of New York ranks, 38th out of 50 states in the union. That we do not utilize scientific methods to determine the best way to teach math in our state Instead we have allowed the teachers Union to make that determination for us. That out of 50 states New York State spends more per student than any other state in the entire country at over $30,000 a year per student. I’m so happy we’re getting our moneys worth. I think it’s important to continue to encourage our teachers Union to knock on doors in our village to Direct our voting decisions in school board elections
