HAPPY COLUMBUS DAY AND ITALIAN AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH TO EVERYONE IN CROTON AND IN NEW YORK, A LETTER FROM JESSICA DIECKMAN

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

To the editor,

Happy Columbus Day and Italian American Heritage Month to everyone in Croton and in New York! I invite everyone to the biggest Columbus Day Parade in New York City on 5th Avenue on Monday October 13th, from 11:30-3:00. Every year over 35,000 people attend this parade and enjoy Italian food and culture. Several nearby towns right here in Westchester also hold large Columbus Day parades.

I’m proud of my Italian heritage and ancestors. They over came much discrimination and prejudice to build a life of success and respect in America. Italians have gone from being lynched and ridiculed to building amazing structures like the Croton Dam and starting many successful businesses and industries here in America.

So join me this Columbus Day at a parade and celebrate with some great food and fun people. Grab a Cannoli or a Zeppole while you are there too! If you can’t make it to a parade, celebrate Columbus Day and the month by dining at one of our local Italian restaurants for some super yummy food!

Ciao,
Jessica Dieckman
