1970---FESTIVAL AT FORD'S THEATRE---NBC--WHAT A CAST

With the holiday season approaching the corner, we're in happy mode. Those of you who collect vintage holiday goodness--especially Halloween and Christmas houses, lights, etc.--know exactly what we mean. Yes, yes, we do it all year--but from autumn forward, it all becomes that much more real. And above all, we do NOT stress! That just kills all the joy of Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. In our house, we just do everything a little at a time starting in July! And of course, all the Christmas music and DVD's that we've collected are stacked neatly in the family room--ready to go at a moment's notice...Which reminded us of this 1970 ad we came across some time ago---and from the days when stations like NBC did extravagant holiday productions. (Click on the images.)

And how we wish this Thanksgiving special was available on DVD (we checked, it isn't--please let us know if it is and we've just missed it!) With a cast like that, it must have been some show.

It features James Stewart as narrator, hosted by Andy Williams, with Pearl Bailey, Tennessee Earnie Ford, Bobbie Gentry, Burl Ives, Henry Mancini, The Supremes and Dionne Warwick.

Click on the images--because the ad was oversized, we had to scan it in 2 sections. It must have been some show.
