When I was a small child, nearly every television series had a "Christmas-themed" episode nearly every year. Often they were just reworking of plots like "The Gift of the Magi" or other tales, but they were still fun. Part of our family's enjoyment of the holiday season was watching these. But by the time I was about ten, though, many series had gone to just showing reruns the last week or two of the years, which disappointed my father, as it robbed us of a family Christmas tradition. Red Skelton's Christmas shows held out a little longer. They were also among the most charming, often featuring his "Freddy Freeloader" character.
