The following letter appeared in a recent edition of THE GAZETTE
Letter to editor:
I have grave concerns about the direction of the village after reading the letter written by our code enforcement officer. If what he states is proven true, then the village potentially faces hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal liabilities.
Trustee Politi’s comments saying the board discussed the banner issue before hiring the code enforcement officer seem to indicate board and the village manager may have agreed to a plan to silence a resident with a different point of view.
Why the board would go down this road a second time is hard to fathom. Lenny Amicola is a 77-year-old disabled veteran who did not seek this unwanted attention.
This brought national attention to the village regarding first amendment rights. We were told seventeen notices were sent out to residents/businesses for this code infraction. The names of those entities have yet to made public. Why? The board has made no comment other than a prepared statement by the village manager saying this is nothing more than a simple code enforcement issue. It appears not.
I’m very troubled by the lack of transparency, integrity and leadership of our small village. The unwanted national attention has tarnished our reputation immeasurably.
