FROM HISTORIC HUDSON VALLEY --You can have dinner inside an 18th-century tavern in Westchester this weekend, and the part I love is that the whole night is built around what a tavern actually was before it became a word we slap onto sports bars.

On August 8 and 9, Historic Hudson Valley is turning the Ferry House at Van Cortlandt Manor into Toast 250! Tavern Nights. The $65 ticket includes cornbread, a grazing board for the table, a chicken entrée, dessert and your choice of an alcoholic or nonalcoholic drink. There will be a fiddler playing while you eat, historic games and Revolutionary War trivia built around local stories. Because taverns in the 1700s were not just places to drink.
