Last week, Examiner reporter intern Jade D’Agostino covered the story for us of a class-action lawsuit challenging the license plate surveillance system used by Westchester County police. On Tuesday, Martin Wilbur and I interviewed Nancy Glass, one of the lawyers representing the plaintiffs in the case, for our Local Matters Westchester podcast.
Automated license plate readers help investigators locate stolen vehicles, identify suspects and witnesses, and track vehicles connected to criminal investigations
But one of the objections Glass cites is the length of time county police keep these records: at least two years.
“And yet there is not a single iota of suspicion about more than 99.9 percent of these people,” said Glass, the litigation director of The Policing Project at NYU School of Law.
Listen to our conversation with Glass here.
