SCOTUS Parental Rights Ruling

Let’s break down the most recent U.S. Supreme Court parental rights ruling:

The U.S. Supreme Court just stepped in on a case out of California: Mirabelli v. Bonta, blocking a policy that allowed schools to withhold critical information from parents about their own children, even major, life-altering issues.

Schools were operating under policies where they could:  Keep secrets from parents

Treat children differently at school without parental knowledge

And the Supreme Court said: not so fast.

 What this ruling DOES:
Reinforces that parents have a constitutional right to be involved in their child’s upbringing
Makes clear schools cannot deceive or mislead parents
Sends a strong signal that parental rights don’t disappear at the schoolhouse door

What happens next:
Back to the lower courts, the Supreme Court’s order was temporary, it hit the pause button to protect parents while the case continues.
California courts will now examine the full lawsuit and decide the final outcome using this ruling as a guiding principle.

Bottom line: The highest court in the land is acknowledging what should never have been up for debate:

Parents get to raise their kids. Not the government. Not the school system.
