It is Soap Hill, not Sope. There are numerous articles from the 1880s and 1890s referring to it as "Soap" Hill.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. We were told the exact opposite, but take it you know best.
DeleteAlso, when the village officially named a group of streets in 1901, both the meeting minutes and subsequent newspaper article refer to “Soap Hill.”
