CROTON'S "GREEN HOTEL", PRE-1911 & MUCH MORE

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton -- our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

At long last, we have more info to go with this image of Croton's "Green Hotel". Click on the photo.

Per Croton Historian Marc Cheshire: A 1955 newspaper article about Washington Engine Co. says "Green Hotel burned to the ground in 1911 ... Tenants of the Green Hotel included Mr. and Mrs. Frank Simone and his children, it was recalled by Washington Engine members, who noted that Mr. Simone now is proprietor of a barber shop in Croton. The blaze was discovered by a locomotive engineer, who stopped his train and rushed to assist residents from the building."

And per Thomas Simone: Uncle Frank Simone owned the hotel. It was located just off Brook Street on Riverside Avenue.
