MORE RECENTLY UNEARTHED BITS AND PIECES ABOUT CROTON NOTABLES...HOLBROOK BLINN,  BOARDMAN ROBINSON, PETER STRAUSS, AND GLORIA SWANSON.

CLICK ON THE PHOTOS and links.

First up, a 1916 review of THE FAMILY CUPBOARD with Croton's Holbrook Blinn (of Blinn Road fame--read more about him here.)

Next up, a quick 1902-1903 blurb on Boardman Robinson who initially worked as an illustrator, drawing cartoons and theater illustrations for the New York Morning Telegraph and later freelancing for a wide for a wide range of other popular publications. With the eruption of World War I in 1914, Robinson's increasingly radical anti-militarist political views brought him into conflict with his employer (then the NY Tribune) and he quit the publication. In 1915, he travelled to Eastern Europe on behalf of Metropolitan Magazine along with journalist and Croton notable John Reed. Robinson would later provide political cartoons for The Masses. Following The Masses, Robinson became a contributing editor to The Liberator and The New Masses, working with former Masses editor Max Eastman.

Next up, did you know that Croton's own Peter Strauss also starred in a 1973 MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW episode, Angels in The Snow?  Mary’s meeting of a younger man in a supermarket leads to a sudden fling. Click here to see a still from the episode--and here for another

Next up, Croton's Gloria Swanson in the 1941 film FATHER TAKES A WIFE--which also featured Desi Arnaz!

Father Takes a Wife is a 1941 American comedy film starring Gloria Swanson and Adolphe Menjou. Silent screen queen Gloria Swanson returned to films after a seven-year absence. Eight years later, Swanson staged another comeback in the classic Sunset Boulevard (1950).
