MORE MAX &--CRYSTAL EASTMAN--THE LIBERATOR 1918

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

THE LIBERATOR, CO-FOUNDED BY MAX EASTMAN, AND HIS SISTER CRYSTAL EASTMAN, was the successor to THE MASSES.  It was considered a radical magazine of politics and the arts-and would later become an arm of the Communist Party of America. In later life, however, Eastman changed his views, becoming highly critical of socialism and communism after his experiences during a nearly two-year stay in the Soviet Union in the 1920s, as well as later studies. There are a number of related posts here that might interest you--and links are provided below.

In the meantime, and courtesy of your editor and the elves, some select scans from the premier edition of THE LIBERATOR--March 1918--and the second issue, April 1918.  There's a poem about Isadora Duncan by Max Eastman, assorted ads, Oscar Wilde, John Reed, a list of contributors, etc...click on the images below. STAY TUNED FOR MORE...
