FROM THE EVERYTHING CROTON MAILBOX--TURKEY VULTURES

Welcome to Everything Croton--a collection of all things Croton, our history, our homes, our issues, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

A READER WRITES: WE'RE NEW IN TOWN. CAN'T ANYTHING BE DONE ABOUT THE SWARMS OF THOSE BIG BLACK UGLY LOOKING BIRDS IN THE VILLAGE? THEY SORT OF LOOK LIKE TURKEYS.

ANSWER: They're called Turkey Vultures--IT'S FLOCKS not swarms--and while their featherless heads are not the most attractive we'll admit--they are magnificent in flight--click on the photo--and an important part of the eco-system.  They are nature's recyclers and can remove a deer carcass from the road in less than an hour.  Read more about them here http://bit.ly/2yxCvoJ

  1. Wow. That's all I can say in print! Love these guys. They got rid of a dead raccoon on my property lickety-split.
