Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.
AND NOW A WORD FROM THE CROTON ARBORETUM: The Arboretum's October 7 craft beer fundraiser was a huge success - thanks to gracious hosts Barbara Hart and Joe Slakas, who opened their beautiful home for the event and provided a magnificent spread, with appetizers from Baked by Susan bakedbysusan.com, and brats and hot dogs with Chef Joe's special chili sauce.
Special thanks to Captain Lawrence Brewing Company for providing their newest craft beer flavors and Justin Sturgis, the Captain's Experimental Chemist, who revealed some of secrets behind brewing craft beers, including the Farm-to-Brewery initiative in progress. Also thanks to Archipelago Films and Ian Slakas for screening the promo for "Backyard Wilderness". And, of course, thanks to our hard working volunteers who organized the event.
The event raised $1700 toward the $15,000 needed to finally finish the handicap-accessible boardwalk trail designed to provide outdoor recreation and education opportunities to every body.
Still to come on October 14/15: an photo class at the Arboretum for anyone wanting to sharpen their landscape photography skills under the guidance of renowned photographer Rick Sammon. Only a few spots are still open: applications and information are available at www.crotonarboretum.org. All proceeds go to the boardwalk project.
