  2. I read this tonight with much sadness. he was my favorite sports announcer of all time. As a kid, I looked forward to to Major League Baseball's Game of the Week on NBC, not only because it was a great opportunity to see games not involving New York teams (there was no ESPN then to broadcast baseball every night during the season), but also because Joe Garagiola was the announcer. He did the pre-game show, back then, and it was informative, insightful and exciting!. His humor and personality led to numerous television and game show appearances and his style and skill, in the broadcasting booth, earned him a well-deserved place in the Baseball Hall of Fame. He was a national treasure and I thank him for a million smiles as a kid and for memories that will last a lifetime! Rest in peace, Joe!
