In 1948, Croton on Hudson celebrated its “Golden Jubilee” (50 years, 1898-1948). From September 19th through the 26th, the village held parades, dances, concerts, science and art exhibitions, the list goes on and on. Your editor put up a slideshow back in 2012 -- you can see it here http://www.flickr.com/photos/22283683@N07/sets/72157629728683773/show/
And well...as promised...although three years later(!), here's more. Click on the images and enjoy. Courtesy as always of the outstanding archives maintained by the volunteers of The Croton Historical Society. These are all from a special section in the Croton-on-Hudson News--Sept. 24, 1948. Crotonites Leon J. Quick and Julian B. Moss are mentioned, as well as a history of Bethel Chapel that includes the legend of George Washington's visit. There will be more.
Had no idea about the legend of Bethel and Washington. Thanks.
