Another episode in the "be careful what you wish for" chronicles--P.S. Food tastes pretty bad in them too--ditto for the compostable spoons:

CONGRATULATIONS!  Jr. Kyle Morrison, Croton-Harmon High School varsity boys lacrosse co-captain, was named All-State 3rd team for the 2019 season by the New York State Sports Writers Association.

Remembering Sir Alec Guiness---who died this date in 2000. From our fiends at European Film Star Postcards: English actor Sir Alec Guinness (1914–2000) was one of the most versatile and subtle actors of his time, in the cinema and on television no less than on the stage. He was master of disguise in several of the classic Ealing Comedies, including Kind Hearts and Coronets...(But for your editor, he will always be remembered as George Smiley.)

THANK YOU LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT

As many of you know, there have been reports of non-residents swimming---which is not permitted---at Black Rock Park.  Your editor also reported this to the village on 7/25/19, and many other residents have notified the NYSDEC as well as other local authorities.  Today, we are receiving reports that both county and local police are in the vicinity of Black Rock and enforcing current regulations.

To the anonymous commenter who continues to insist that your editor stop using what they view as gender-specific terms, words and pronouns in the broader spirit of diversity and tolerance---clearly, we view the concept of diversity and tolerance differently. Please feel free to visit those sites where your gender demands are more precisely matched.

Back in January of this year, we mentioned that the Edward F. Carter Funeral Home here in Croton was being renovated.   By special request, a photo of the completed work. HEAT WAVE, THE LATEST FROM ROB & MONICA--HEAT WAVE!

The third weekend in July brought us the first wave of oppressive heat of the season. We have had a pretty hot July but this weekend brought it to a whole new level. It was a three day weekend for us since we chose Friday as a vacation day. It only hit 83 degrees on Friday, which is where it should be, but it was the dew point that made it tough. With dew points way above the 70 mark, the humidity put the real feel temperature into the mid-90's. Friday was the cool day. The thermometer reached 98 degrees both Saturday and Sunday and, with the humidity hanging like a blanket over our heads, the real feel temperatures neared 110 degrees. FRONT PAGE—2 PHOTOS AND CONTENT—IN RESPONSE TO AN OVERWHELMING NUMBER OF NON-VILLAGE RESIDENTS ENTERING THE CROTON RIVER CORRIDOR THE PREVIOUS WEEKEND FROM NORDICA AND TRUESDALE DRIVES, CLOGGING BOTH ROADS WITH PARKED VEHCILES, VILLAGE POLICE AND RANGERS WERE CONSPICUOUS THIS PAST SATURDAY AND SUNDAY…POLICE REPORTED MANY PEOPLE ON STATE OWNED LAND THERE WERE IN FLAGRANT VIOLATION OF REGULATIONS REGARDING OPEN FLAMES, LITTERING AND LOUD MUSIC….There is much more…please read the entire content. LETTERS REGARDING THIS ISSUE START ON PAGE 2:

--A letter from May Pearson on behalf of the Pearson Family—“any proposed change to the residency requirement for our parks would be an insane move”; please make sure to read the entire letter.

--A much more lengthy letter from Matthew Rubenstein thanking the paper for its coverage; proposes that the “village extend the existing residency requirement for visiting these Croton River parks (i.e. Silver Lake, Mayo’s Landing, and all others along the river) to include the parking on the streets that service them”. These people will then go to Croton Point Park (paying the fee) and/or the Croton Landing waterfront, open to everyone. They ask that the police enforce these rules with citations, not verbal warnings. There is much more. Please make sure to read the entire letter.
