FROM THE MAILBOX: OUTDOOR POT SMOKING AND CROTON PHOTOGRAPHERS - ASSORTED REQUESTS FOR INFO

A reader writes: After forty years in Mamaroneck, the remainder of my aunt's things were boxed and shipped to her new digs in Florida. As we stopped at her old church to say good bye to some of her friends, we were greeted with the smell of pot---and then again on the way back to the car.

This reminded me that the village was considering some sort of measure against outdoor smoking but it's a sore point with my aunt so I didn't press further. Whatever happened with that?

Response: Back in May there was a proposal to ban outdoor smoking (read about it here) but let it suffice to say that Mamaroneck did not institute the outdoor pot ban. The proposal was unanimously rejected and is officially dead as of July 2026. The Larchmont Loop and News 12 are your best bets for follow-up as to why.
