Letter to the Editor,
This letter has two parts regarding the IDEA committee. The first includes the question, "After listening to the tape and reading the transcripts, why would anyone want to live here?"
Regardless, if the meeting was official or not, the chair of the IDEA comm. was there and should have stopped the discussion immediately. Isn't their goal to bring us together and not divide us?
The virtue signaling, and the hypocrisy is stunning. The IDEA committee should be immediately separated as an official village committee. They've done a disservice to the village, the village board, and the Croton community. They can continue their work and bring issues forward to the board just as other residents do, but not under the auspices of the village government.
I believe their mission is worthy and they may have achieved some positive results, but they have lost their way. One former mayor once admonished a resident with the words, "actions have consequences", and this is a classic example. If they are allowed to continue with the blessing of the village, then it should be under strict oversight.
Part two of this letter is the reference to "that guy." That guy is a person who came to this country with nothing. He embraced the American Dream and through hard work built a successful business. He truly loves this country and this village.
He is the most generous person that I've ever met. He has donated time, money, and food to numerous village charitable organizations. I suspect thousands of dollars over time every year since he opened his business. His caring and kindness to others should be an example to us all.
To have his name; although the group could not remember, it dragged into the discussion disgusts me. He has achieved more positive goals in his life than this IDEA group in total might ever hope to achieve.
The IDEA committee and the village owe him an apology. By the way, "that guy" is Pete Tsagarakis, owner of the Croton Diner who has been feeding Croton families for over fifty years.
Stop by sometime and receive a hearty welcome and a great meal.
