CROTON POLICE SPEND TIME LISTENING, LEARNING AND CONNECTING WITH SENIORS AT SKYVIEW REHABILITATION AND HEALTHCARE
CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y., OCTOBER 14, 2026 – Uniforms, badges, and titles were set aside this past Tuesday afternoon as members of the Village of Croton-on-Hudson Police Department spent two hours building relationships, sharing stories, and listening to residents during Skyview Rehabilitation & Healthcare's "Coffee with a Cop" event.
Held at Skyview Rehabilitation & Healthcare, located at 1280 Albany Post Road, the gathering transformed the facility into a welcoming forum for conversation and connection, bringing together local law enforcement, residents, village leaders, and staff to strengthen community ties and foster understanding across generations.
Leading the department's participation was Chief Nikitopoulos, who spent the afternoon engaging with residents, answering questions, and discussing community concerns.
"It's nice to connect with the public and get feedback on how the police department is doing within the area," said Chief Nikitopoulos.
The event was coordinated by Leslie Lawler, Director of Human Resources, and Kristen Liston, Director of Activities, whose efforts helped create a warm and inviting experience for all in attendance.
One of the afternoon's most memorable moments occurred when resident Valentine B., a retired Transit Police officer, reminisced with attending officers about his years in law enforcement. The conversation sparked stories, laughter, and mutual respect, highlighting the shared bond among those who have dedicated their lives to public service and underscoring the event's theme that meaningful connections begin with conversation.
Residents expressed overwhelming appreciation for the opportunity to interact directly with local law enforcement in a relaxed setting.
"Do it! It's good. They are wonderful police officers, engaging, kind, and very informative," said resident Camille B.
"Love this event! The cops are really great. They answered questions honestly," added Michelle J.
For resident Mary W., the event had a particularly personal impact.
"They give their all – they sacrifice. It meant the world to me today. Taking time out of their day is priceless to be with us."
Resident Barbara S. described the afternoon simply as a "very nice event."
The event also welcomed distinguished guests Bryan Healy, Village Manager and Chief Executive Officer for the Village of Croton-on-Hudson, and Nora Nicolson, Director of Operations, who attended to show their support for both Skyview Rehabilitation & Healthcare and the Croton-on-Hudson Police Department.
To express gratitude for their participation, Skyview presented each attending officer with a special appreciation gift bag. Refreshments and light fare were served as residents, officers, staff, and community leaders spent the afternoon exchanging stories and building new connections.
"At Skyview, we believe that strong communities are built through meaningful relationships," said facility leadership. "This event provided our residents with an opportunity to interact with the officers who serve our community every day, ask questions, share experiences, and strengthen those important connections."
As communities throughout the nation seek opportunities to promote engagement and trust, Skyview Rehabilitation & Healthcare remains committed to creating programs that enrich the lives of residents while fostering collaboration with local organizations, public servants, and community leaders.
