FROM THE MAILBOX---TRACK, JOY'S, RICHARD MERKIN, THE BUNGALOW COLONY AND MORE

So many requests. Click on the photos and links.

--A reader is looking for any info on a 1984 plane crash here in the village (a Cessna aircraft); we have found some technical data but would prefer local news coverage; if anyone has any clippings--or can point to an article, it would be appreciated.

--A reader has fond memories of "the Bungalow Colony" at Croton Point and has many additional questions about it. This link takes you to an index of "Bungalow Colony posts" here at the blog that will answer some of those questions. Click here.  For more info, contact THE CROTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY.

--A reader has happy memories of "Joy's on Grand St". "GOT ANYTHING?"....YES....Click on the 1981 photo. It is now Hunan Wok.

For a gallery of CURRENT interior photos, go to Hunan Wok Ⅲ | Online Ordering Menu

--A reader is looking for an old track article; we believe it is this one from 1965: Tigers Race to Victory in 1st Meet under Coach Ron Levery.

--A reader was trying to remember an "eccentric character in the village named Merkein, Merkil????"

They can only mean RICHARD MERKIN:

CROTON'S RICHARD MERKIN (Richard Marshall Merkin (1938 – September 5, 2009)--an American painter, illustrator and arts educator. Merkin's fascination with the 1920s and 1930s defined his art and shaped his identity as a professional dandy. He died at his home in Croton after a long illness. One of the elves stumbled upon this fab post on MERKIN entitled RICHARD MERKIN: THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER by Alan Flusser; you can read it at https://alanflusser.com/musings-from-alans-desk/richard-merkin

--Your editor is seeking any info/details/clippings on Croton's "What-Not" Shop. Thank you.
