AT THE MAILBOX: ASSORTED REQUESTS ABOUT THE COLUMBIAN HOOK & LADDER CO.

Finally had time to answer some long overdue 2021 requests on THE COLUMBIAN HOOK & LADDER CO.

BUT FIRST, your all-volunteer Croton Fire Department FB page has an excellent post on this very subject that actually answers most of the questions!  See below:

Today, we take a look at the apparatus of our only Ladder Company - Columbian Hook & Ladder Company No. 1.  The Ladder Company was organized and part of the original Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department in 1892. The Company today operates a 2002 Pierce 100’ rear-mounted Tower Ladder, known as Tower Ladder 44.

Stationed at Grand Street Firehouse, along with Chemical Engine Company, the “Truck” goes on all structural fire calls as well as most technical rescue responses in our district.

The current rig has many “firsts” for this Company, including a “bucket” or platform on the aerial ladder as well as it being a “quint,” meaning it has a firefighting pump, water tank, fire hoses, portable ladders and, of course, the 100’ capable aerial ladder. SEE PHOTOS INCLUDING PRIOR APPARATUS  HERE AND HERE
