First up, a wonderful repro--worth re-visting--of a vintage Made in Japan "green spottie" putz house by artisan Lynn. The miniature Santa is celluloid and from the 1940's. That's followed by an ad from the 1940's drama, Since You Went Away--although your editor has seen it a dozen times or more, it's always worth another look. This film is a definite one for your movie "bucket list". The cast is amazing: Claudette Colbert, Jennifer Jones, a growing up Shirley Temple, Monty Wooley, Joseph Cotton, and more. Here's a YouTube tribute https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2lIMEmRqNw
And
finally, worth revisiting, a great still from GIANT, featuring James
Dean and Elizabeth Taylor. Click on the photos and enjoy!
We've
talked about this one before but it is always worth mentioning again -
The Night Before Christmas by Clement C. Moore.
This Charles Graham
version is circa 1870, and the first representation of Santa Claus
dressed in a red cloth coat trimmed with white fur.
The type used in
this edition is the seldom seen anymore "Ringlet".

“This is a crisis,” he said. “We have to fight back. We need allies in this. We can’t do it alone. This is going to be a long struggle.”..................

That role that earned her three Emmys and two Golden Globes for Best Actress in a comedy series. She also made occasional appearances on the All in the Family follow-up series Archie Bunker's Place. But her entire filmography was very impressive.

There was no significant increase in Chinese coronavirus hospitalizations, fatalities, and the percentage rate of people testing positive for the disease in 21 states that eased lockdown restrictions on May 4 or earlier, including seven that did not implement a shutdown order at all, an ABC News investigation reportedly found this week.
Health analysts consider the number of hospitalizations, fatalities, and the positivity test rate, particularly the seven-day average given the swings in the figures reported daily, to be good proxies for the severity of COVID-19, the new coronavirus disease. READ MORE HERE.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday played the blame game for the coronavirus’ invasion of American soil, calling out public-health agencies, the intelligence community and the media — as another 335 New Yorkers died from the disease.“The virus was in China last November and December,” said Cuomo in a press briefing at the SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse. “Why didn’t someone suspect, ‘Well maybe the virus gets on a plane … and lands in the United States the next day?’ “All you need is one person to get on a plane. As it happened, one person got on a plane, and went from China to Europe, and then it went from Europe to New York.”
Cuomo first took aim at international and national health agencies, namely the World Health Organization, the National Institutes of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “Where was the whole international health community?” he asked. “Where was the whole national host of experts, the WHO, the NIH, the CDC, that whole alphabet soup of agencies? Where was everyone?....“Where was the intelligence community, with the briefings?” he continued. “Saying this is in China and they have something called an airplane and you can get on an airplane and you can come to the United States?”...The governor saved room in his crosshairs for the media, alleging that they didn’t do enough to sound the alarm that China’s problem could soon become America’s....“Where were all the experts? Where was The New York Times? Where was The Wall Street Journal?” he asked. “Where was all the bugle blowers who should say, ‘Be careful, there’s a virus in China that may be in the United States.’...“Who was supposed to blow the bugle and didn’t?” But Cuomo did exempt one group from a share of the accountability.” READ MORE AT https://nypost.com/2020/04/28/cuomo-plays-blame-game-for-coronavirus-american-invasion/

Northwell Health probing whether ventilators caused coronavirus deaths -- New York’s largest hospital system is conducting a sweeping analysis of its use of ventilators while treating coronavirus patients during the peak of the pandemic — over concerns that an over-reliance on the machines may have cost lives.
For so many sick COVID-19 patients, getting attached to a mechanical ventilator was a death sentence. More than two-thirds of the patients in Northwell Health facilities hooked to ventilators died in March and early April and the fatality rate was similar at other hospitals. At the beginning of the pandemic, health officials were worried whether there would be a shortage of ventilators to intubate COVID patients with serious breathing and lung problems. But then discussion in the medical community turned to whether the machines were being overused and possibly contributing to a higher death rate. ALBANY — Retail stores, hair salons and barber shops across much of New York had been crafting meticulous plans to reopen their doors to customers Friday after more than two months of coronavirus shutdown.
Local government leaders had been preparing for a glimmer of economic hope, telling residents to assume they would receive the all-clear to begin Phase 2 of New York's reopening process.
Then Gov. Andrew Cuomo took to the radio. Cuomo, a Democrat, suggested in a radio interview Thursday afternoon that five regions of the state would not begin Phase 2 on Friday morning, as they had been anticipating for two weeks. GOVERNOR'S LACK OF COMMUNICATION--CHAOS
CHAOS: LOCAL COUNTY LEADERS VOICE FRUSTRATION OVER GOVERNOR'S LACK OF COMMUNICATION
(WETM) – “Unprofessional,” “confusion”, and “chaos.” That’s how local county leaders are describing the lead up to phase two when it comes to receiving help from Governor Andrew Cuomo’s office. Chemung County Executive Christopher Moss and Steuben County Manager Jack Wheeler both expressed frustration over the lack of communication from Governor Cuomo’s office regarding guidelines for phase two with just hours left for businesses to prepare. “I think it’s highly unprofessional, I think it’s just infuriating that we’ve been planning for weeks for phase two trying to answer questions and the Governor’s office can’t even release guidance about the details on this,” said Wheeler.
