WASHINGTON ENGINE/CROTON FIRE DEPT. FB PAGE; 25 PLUS PHOTOS: Today, in front of nearly 90 members and guests, the Washington Engine Company No. 2 held their annual Memorial Day Service at our firehouse. The event, as it has been for many years, was emceed by Company President Joe Streany.

As we do each year, we take the time to remember all of those that have served our nation, as well as all of our members that are no longer with us. The list of our fallen members was read by Past Chiefs Stephen Dominello, John Munson and Art Roosa Jr.

This year, we dedicated the day to two of our past Captains - Louis Giglio and Elwood "Skip" Munson - whom passed away since last Memorial Day. We also remembered Associate Member Elwood "Woody" Munson who suddenly died a few weeks ago.

At our May 23rd Company Meeting, the Company elected to appoint Richard Pusatere as an Honorary Member, posthumously. Pusatere was the Chief Engineer of the El Faro cargo ship which sank with all 33 crew members aboard on October 1, 2015 in the wake of Hurricane Juaqin. CONGRATULATIONS MARK FRANZOSO, COMPANY RECEIVES GAF'S PRESTIGIOUS 2015 PRESIDENT'S CLUB AWARD

5/25/16 Press Release - Franzoso Contracting Receives GAF’s Prestigious 2015 President’s Club Award

Franzoso Contracting of Croton-on-Hudson, NY, has received GAF’s 2015 President’s Club Award. A GAF Master Elite(R) contractor since 1998, the company has three divisions, handling replacements, interior work, and solar and air sealing.

Croton-on-Hudson, NY – May 25, 2016: Franzoso Contracting, Inc., of Croton-on-Hudson, New York, has received GAF’s most prestigious contractor award: The GAF President’s Club Award. This highly coveted award recognizes Franzoso Contracting as one of the “elite of the elite” residential roofing contractors in the United States.

GAF is North America’s largest roofing manufacturer, and only GAF Master Elite(R) Contractors can compete for its President’s Club Award. To qualify for this award, a contractor must demonstrate an exceptional level of excellence in their business, especially in the areas of Installation Excellence, Consumer Protection, and Installer Training.

Franzoso Contracting has been a GAF Master Elite(R) Contractor since 1998. To become a Master Elite(R) Contractor–a status that less than 2% of roofing contractors nationwide have achieved–a candidate must demonstrate proper licensing and adequate insurance, have a proven reputation and show commitment to ongoing professional training.

“My company is pretty much an open book,” declares Mark Franzoso, president of Franzoso Contracting, “with a stellar name for home remodeling in our area. We’re hired primarily for the name that we have out there, providing excellent service and excellent workmanship. We bring to the job 35 years of experience and winning awards, year after year after year, trying to be at the top of our field.”

The reputation is well deserved. Since 1980, Franzoso Contracting has been a leader in Westchester, Putnam, and Rockland Counties in New York and Fairfield County in Connecticut, providing services in siding, windows, roofing (both new and repairs) and roof cleaning, gutters, doors, and skylights. “We recently ventured into the solar arena,” adds Franzoso. “We are now mastering the solar contractors.”

Communication and great products are the hallmarks of service at the company. “We make our first impression,” states Franzoso, “from the moment the phone gets answered in the office. All parties communicate at all stages, from the sales associate making the presentation to the production department to the installation crew to the onsite foreman.” He continues: “I’ve always prided myself on being an innovator and bringing new product lines to the customers before my competitors do. When GAF establishes new styles and colors, such as the Timberline(R) American Harvest(TM) shingles that we’ve been using for the last six months or so, we utilize that to separate us from other roofers.”

Franzoso Contracting has an enormous commitment to community. “Our customers are hiring a company with strong ties to the area, through a lot of civic organizations,” says Franzoso. The company works with or supports diverse organizations, including: the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce; the Rotarians; The Friends Network, supporting children with special needs; The Support Connection, a women’s breast- and ovarian-cancer support group; and Habitat for Humanity. The company also does a lot of work with veterans. “I’m vice president of the Downstate chapter of Purple Heart Homes,” adds Franzoso. “We redid steps and installed new railings for a Korean War veteran who lost his leg. GAF supplied materials for us to put on a new roof, gutters, and leaders for a Vietnam veteran in Putnam Valley. A recent veteran recipient was a 30-year-old who lost his right arm in Iraq; we made his home easier to manage and operate with just one arm. We love to get involved and help.”

Going forward, the company looks to see some growth in the roofing portion of the business. “Work and money aren’t everything,” concludes Franzoso, “and we don’t get all of the jobs. But we get our fair share from people who are willing to pay little bit more, for the perfect job with the best materials.”

THE CROTON-CORTLANDT CENTER FOR THE ARTS HAS CLOSED ITS DOORS

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Sad news...

Dear Friends: It is with great sadness that we announce that The Croton-Cortlandt Center for the Arts ("cccArts") will no longer be providing visual arts education in our community.

As you may be aware, in January 2014 a fire destroyed the building that formerly housed cccArts. Through the extraordinary efforts of our Executive Director Gayle Lamb, senior instructor Cathy Faiella, and cccArts' other staff, we were able to continue providing classes in various temporary locations over the past two years while we searched for a new permanent home. Unfortunately, despite having followed up on all possible leads and having visited over a dozen properties, we were unable to find a location that was both suitable and available to cccArts at little or no cost, as our prior home had been.

Then, in December 2015 Gayle Lamb informed cccArts that, due to personal reasons, she would be leaving the New York area for the foreseeable future and would, regrettably, be resigning her position as Executive Director. As a result, and despite the Board's efforts to identify another viable way forward, it has become clear that cccArts can no longer continue its operations.

We are extremely grateful for the generous support that cccArts has received throughout its more than 20-year history. The Town of Cortlandt, under the leadership of Town Supervisor Linda Puglisi, and Arts Westchester have been sponsors of cccArts for many years, and we sincerely thank them for their support. We would also like to recognize the many members of the community who responded to our fundraising requests and who volunteered their time for our events over the years. And, of course, cccArts would not have been the vibrant educational organization that it was without the warmth and enthusiasm of our teachers or the curiosity and diligence of our students. We thank you, as well, for your contributions to cccArts.

Cathy Faiella, a long-time senior instructor at cccArts, will continue to offer art education classes for students in our area. We encourage anyone interested in attending Ms. Faiella's classes to contact her directly at: Cathy.carabee.faiella@gmail.com, 914 954-2633. In addition, the Garrison Art Center, the Hat Factory in Peekskill, the Rye Art Center, the Katonah Art Center, Westchester Community College Center for the Arts in White Plains and its Center for the Digital Arts in Peekskill are among the many fine organizations providing arts education in our community. We hope that cccArts' former students will continue to pursue their study of the visual arts with these organizations or at other arts institutions.

We are honored to have been entrusted with the supervision of cccArts for the past several years, and we look forward to a bright future for the visual arts in our community notwithstanding the unfortunate events that have resulted in the closing of cccArts.

Very truly yours,
The Board of Directors
The Croton-Cortlandt Center for the Arts, Inc.

PLAYING POLITICS WITH A PLAYGROUND, A MESSAGE FROM CROTON UNITED

A message from Croton United regarding Sunset Park and the 5/23 board meeting.

PLAYING POLITICS WITH A PLAYGROUND
We were disappointed to see that at last night’s Village Board meeting, Croton Dems trustees Ann Gallelli and Brian Pugh chose to make a playground a political issue by refusing to join us in voting to approve the resolution that would have permitted the renovations of Sunset Park to move forward.
