MORE CROTON MEMORIES 2012: THE 1929 CROTON GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

We stopped by THE CROTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY last week where everyone was working hard on the new exhibit, sorting new material, and more—to take a look at some baseball and basketball photos from the village’s illustrious sports history. The society has an excellent archive, all of it handy at a moment’s notice. Kudos to the volunteers for their ongoing efforts to preserve this part of Croton’s heritage. They do it so well!

The Croton Girls Basketball team finished out the recent season with their best year yet: 11 wins, 7 losses. That’s when we remembered that we had this photo above, picturing the 1929 team. Shown are: Dr. T.J. Wagner and in the back row, Ada Slaving, Helen Carter, Monica Jacoby, Henrietta Outhause, Mary Jane Hungerford and the Coach (no name shown). In the front row, an unidentified player, Lydia Hunt, Muriel Jacoby and Vivian Lyons. Of course if you can identify who isn’t, please contact the Society at 271-4574.

Stay tuned for more Croton Memories 2012. To see past editions:
