NEW FROM OUR FRIENDS AT EUROPEAN FILM STAR POSTCARDS AND THE G.D.I.

New acquisitions at G.D.I.: a gift from the Dutch Beatles Museum

Egbert Barten of the Geoffrey Donaldson Institute (G.D.I.) always lends us his newly acquired postcards to present them at European Film Star Postcards. This time he handed me over two albums which his institute had received as gifts. Today, we present the first album: a collection of Dutch and German postcards in black and white from the late 1950s and early 1960s. Egbert got the postcards from the Beatles Museum in Alkmaar. Probably they were part of a postcard album which included Beatles postcards. G.D.I. was given the other postcards, of which we present a selection of 17 postcards of classic Hollywood stars and German teenager idols of the era.  (CLICK ON THE PHOTO SEE A VERY YOUNG AND STRIKING WARREN BEATTY)

P.S. Warren was incredible in SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS, as was Natalie Wood.  This is a film that should be on everyone's bucket list.  From 1961, it  tells a story of a teenage girl navigating her feelings of sexual repression, love, and heartbreak. Written by William Inge, who won an Oscar for his screenplay, the film was directed by Elia Kazan and features a score by jazz composer David Amram.

THE GREEN GROWLER IS IN THE NEWS! WESTCHESTER MAGAZINE

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Croton’s The Green Growler Has a New Owner — and a Ton of Exciting New Offerings--Think trivia, food trucks, live music, and a brand-new menu.

In 2016, after a decade in Brooklyn as a freelance television editor and semi-pro metal and punk touring musician, Evan Perdomo-Cohen grew tired of the daily grind. Seeking a career change, he and his wife purchased a home in Peekskill. “I thought about what I was really interested in…craft beer,” he says. “I dropped off résumés but couldn’t get any footing because I had no industry experience.” Having grown up in Croton-on-Hudson (his parents moved to the Rivertown when he was two), Perdomo-Cohen had frequented The Green Growler on visits....read and see more here.

2ND WATER TESTING, VILLAGE, MAYO'S, HIGH FECAL COLIFORM AGAIN, EMAIL BLAST

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

EMAIL BLAST FROM THE VILLAGE---Croton River - High Fecal Coliform Test Result, Water Quality

On Wednesday, August 21st, the Village took a second water sample in the vicinity of Mayo’s Landing for the purpose of testing for the levels of fecal coliform. The results from the testing were received this morning and again came back with levels exceeding the acceptable range for swimming.

Swimming in waters with high levels of fecal coliform bacteria increases the chance of developing illness (fever, nausea or stomach cramps) from pathogens entering the body through the mouth, nose, ears, or cuts in the skin. Other related illnesses could also develop. The primary sources of fecal coliform bacteria to fresh water are wastewater treatment plant discharges, failing septic systems, stormwater runoff, and animal waste. At this point the Village does not know what is causing the high levels. We intend to continue to take samples from Mayo’s Landing and will share these results with the public as they become available.

8/22/19 CROTON RIVER, UNIQUE AREA UPDATE

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

The Croton Gorge Unique Area is sandwiched between the Croton River and the scenic path of the Old Croton Aqueduct State Historic Park....and unfortunately, it continues to suffer...the photos posted below were taken today---let it suffice to say that when possible, those documenting these events remove the trash they find.  However, it is clear from these photos that this is not always possible. The images below speak for themselves and as such, this post is closed to all comments. Click on the photos which are being provided here for documentation purposes.

Fyi --these photos are from the Unique Area past Dickies. This is the last island before Silver Lake. It is also "the last kayak spot". It has been reported that people were swimming at Mayo's and asked if they had "village i.d.'s". Let it suffice to say they did not.

There is also a video available upon request by email.

CROTON--1897: DECREPIT TOMBSTONES AND MORE...

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

With Asbury Methodist's "Historic Sunday" on tap for September 1st at the Bethel Chapel/Cemetery (see and read more about that here), one of the Everything Croton elves began to wonder about other cemeteries that were once--or still--in the village.  She came up with this little gem from 1897 and an Abilene, Kansas newspaper entitled DECREPIT TOMBSTONES...click on the images below and enjoy.
