AN OPEN LETTER TO THE CROTON HARMON SCHOOL DISTRICT FROM JESSICA DIECKMAN

As many of you know, a number of schools have offered grief and/or related counseling in light of the Charlie Kirk assassination and related events. (New Jersey educators for example held assemblies, had counseling, etc.)

Please see a letter below from Jessica Dieckman to the Croton Harmon School district. Further questions and comments should be referred to the district:

To Mr. Walker and the school board,

I heard many CHUFSD students were upset and crying about the assassination of Turning Point Founder and public speaker Charlie Kirk. Why wasn’t there any grief counseling offered to students or an assembly held to discuss what happened and hold a discussion explaining that we don’t solve our differences through violence?

My cousin’s school district distributed the attached letter and held an assembly and had grief counseling for students. (CLICK ON THE IMAGES BELOW.) This was a serious event and much learning and discussion should have happened from the tragedy that occurred yesterday. Our country is founded on the idea of a free and peaceful exchange of ideas with no blood shed. The assassination yesterday was an attack on all Americans freedom of speech.

What will our schools do to guide students during this tragic time?

  1. Tape of the event is being shared extensively by many local young people. Stay tuned.

  2. Thank you. Several students I know of are fans of Charlie Kirk and are very upset. The video of his assassination is being shared around by students. If the schools don’t address it then they should stop pretending like they care about social emotional health. —Jessica
