So there we are in the Shoprite supermarket. I'm looking for a Snoopy-adorned Valentine box of candy to put away for a neighbor's child who is now
into all things Charlie Brown ever since watching A CHARLIE BROWN
CHRISTMAS for the first time last year.
That's when I spot them:
Elmer's Chocolates, made in the USA since the 1850's, has reproduced
"vintage" Valentine cards on the covers of their 99 cents
little boxes of chocolate. (Click on the photo.) It goes without saying that the elves and I
would have bought these just for the boxes! (We did.) The fact that the
chocolate was also pretty good was a bonus. Needless to say they're going
fast. We'll be adding these to the "real vintage"
Valentine's boxes we've been collecting for years--and may even make
our own using images from our vintage Valentine's Day card collection
too.
You can find blank/unfinished cardboard candy boxes @ many of the shops on ETSY: http://www.etsy.com/.

THE VILLAGE QUILTER #6
Welcome to
Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--ourhistory, our homes,
our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.
Our new series here at EverythingCroton--THE VILLAGE QUILTER!--has proven so popular that we have two quilts for you today. And of course along the way--and when we find them--we'll feature the work of local quilting artisans--search for vintage and antique items--provide tips, interesting links, and more....AND SO...
Click on the photo above (undated but probably sometime in the 90's), to see the "Storm at Sea" quilt created by the now disbanded Croton Pointers. Some facts about the quilt: a minimum of 10 different hues of blue were combined with a contrasting blue on white print, 100% cotton; each individual block was either hand or machine pieces by members of the Croton Pointers, 681 pieces, 117 blocks.
Next up we continue to feature the work of local quilting artisan Sandi R--the quilt to the right is aptly named "Sunrise" and the almost three-dimensional qualities of the center sun motifs are breathtaking--not to mention the colors.
Spectacular. Click on the photo. And stay tuned for more of THE VILLAGE QUILTER next week.

PHOTOS & MORE: CROTON-HARMON BOYS BASKETBALL WIN OVER PLEASANTVILLE
Welcome to
Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes,
our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.
A report on the Croton Tiger win against Pleasantville--and photos too:
The boys varsity team had an amazing win at home against Pleasantville yesterday. We were 14 points behind late in the 3rd quarter and came out with a win! The Tigers outscored Panthers 26 to 7 in the 4th quarter. The game was featured on News 12 last night and was names LoHud's Varsity Insider 'Game of the Week.' The team won without Coach Thom at the helm. Unfortunately, he was upstate for his mother-in-laws funeral. One player told me at the end of the game that the team had to win for Coach Thom and his family. If you go to the team site, you can view a video of the Tiger's amazing comeback as well as, the News 12 footage. Go to the 'Comeback' and 'New12' videos.
